 A mineral is the natural wealth of a country. India has abundant reserves of minerals. Under the constitution, the state government has authority over minerals and the implementation of mining laws is the responsibility of the state governments.

 But the central government regulates the minerals produced in offshore areas through laws made under the Mines and Minerals Act 1957.

 Indian mineral industry was opened for domestic and foreign investment by the National Mineral Policy 1993, the contribution of minerals in national income in the previous year 2011-12 was 2.4%. These figures are mainly based on Indian Mineral Year Book 2014 and it is based on Indian Published by the Bureau of Science.

 94 minerals were produced in 2013-14 in which 4 fuels, 10 metallic minerals and 19 non-metallic minerals, 52 minor minerals and 9 nuclear minerals were excavated.

 During 2013-14, the major share of 66% of the total mineral production value has been fuel minerals, 15% of metallic minerals have been 2.5% of non-metallic minerals.

 Liquid and gas fuels contributed the most to the total value of mineral production during the year 2013-14. Followed by 34.3% liquid and solid fuel, 31.3% minor minerals 16.5% metallic minerals 15% and non-metallic minerals contributing 2.4%.

 The off-Shore area accounts for the largest share of 19% of the total production value for 2013-14. Other places in terms of mineral value are mainly12% Odisha, 12% Rajasthan, 9% Jharkhand, 8% Gujarat and 7% Chhattisgarh.
